Baking with Grandma

I spent the day today at my Grandma Janzen's baking traditional Mennonite peppermint cookies with two of my cousins. I have baked with my Grandma before but never with my cousins and never on such a large scale, think upward of 200 cookies. I left with my heart feeling warm and cozy, I am very conscious of time I spend with my Grandparents and this day definitely made the top five list of good memories.
Sometimes we get so caught up in getting stuff done (or not getting anything done) and moments slip away quickly. Today I was reminded that our time is precious and at the end of the day it feels best to use it wisely and with love.
Hope you're all having a great weekend!

SNOW-vember!

Well, the sun never really came to stay but I think the snow that fell this weekend will! It is pretty amazing to go from no snow one day to this the next...
I'm not going to say the 'c' word (rhymes with twistmas) but I will say it's beginning to feel alot like winter! And it's quite beautiful.
There are a few other signs around me that show the change in temperature and the first signs of hunkering down.
Like the couch, it looks like a yarn store threw up on it. I can't show pictures because that would reveal certain peoples gifts.
And my bed no longer has my lovely brown quilt on it (plus the other 3 blankets I had on top of it to stay warm), today I switched over to full on feather duvet with flannel.
There is currently a pot of beef short ribs cooking in the oven. Short ribs are the epitome of fall/winter protein.
And I wore my -30 knee length jacket this afternoon...I might have been a bit over dressed considering it was only -6 out, but that jacket keeps me so cozy!
I hope you all had a great weekend and got to play in the snow!
I'll work on posting more regularly this week, we'll see how it goes!

Finally!

Lately in Winnipeg we've had very little sun, something like 3 sunny days in the the last 30 days! It's all I seem to talk about, sorry to friends and family who have heard enough of my whiny "where is the sun" and facts about S.A.D. But this morning as I type this the sun is rising and we can see it! Downtown Winnipeg is illuminated and I have a feeling it's going to be a great day.
Even though it supposed to rain later today, right now the sun is shining! Have a great day!

Halloween!

Zoe and I hosted a little mid-week Halloween party, just a few friends and yummy food! I even got dressed up...as Rosie the Riveter! For those of you don't know she is the poster girl from WW 2, when women were needed to fill the men's position in the factories. Zoe has a poster of her in the apartment and I was really into a Global show this summer called Bomb Girls that was all about the Canadian women who worked in the the factories creating munitions.

With a borrowed shirt, a polka dot bandana and some red lips I was set!
Zoe was a hippy, with a slight pant alteration she was set...that must mean she is actually a hippy, right?
Here are a few more pictures, mostly of Zoe's awesome decor!

And food! Everything had gross names, like Earwax Corn and Eyes of Toad. Eww, but so yummy.
Hope you all had a safe and yummy Halloween!
