Last Thursday I went to the Yes I Can awards ceremony to watch one of my old Life Skills students receive an award. Those of you who know anything about my time in Norway House will have probably heard of Arthur. He came to Life Skills everyday we always had a great time. He is fluent in Cree and he made me laugh every day!
I was so happy to see him again and watch him get his award, it was amazing to see what 10 months in Life Skills can do to an "outsider" kid.
As we sat through the award ceremony we had many funny conversations, some involving pirhanas and swimming pools. Before I left he said to me "so, when are you coming back to work?" Wow, way to tug at my heart strings, Arthur.
He is back in Norway House now, after his big trip to the city, probably going around asking people "do you know what happened last Thursday?"

Happy Heart Day!
It's here! The day of love...and pink things, and sweet things, and happy things! Just think of the potential on a day like today!
How are you making today special?
Oh, I'm sorry, is Valentine's day not really you thing? What about love? What about friendship? Since we were wee babes my family has always celebrated Valentine's day...a day to umph up the love in your life. And that applies to any kind of love! I have never celebrated a Valentines with a significant other and that has never stopped me from enjoying this day.
I found this video today through a website that is upgrading Valentine's day into Generosity Day, check out the website here. It's a neat idea!
Here is the video that poses to the question to people "What is love?" It made me warm and happy!
So, back to the question...what are you up to this Valentine's day?

Special Guest
I got some great feedback from the last post on fitted sheet folding (who knew!?!?) and I was intrigued by a comment from my Auntie Sandra about her sock folding technique. I sent her an email asking if she wouldn't mind getting my Uncle Gerry to film her demonstrating it. And to my great delight she said yes!!
My Auntie Sandra lives in the same town as my Grandparents and I always pop in when I'm up visiting. She is quite crafty and makes beautiful handmade cards, as well as being a great gardener and the mother of one of my favorite people on the planet. Yup, she's pretty great!
Here she is, take it away Auntie Sandra!
After I saw the video the first time I assessed my sock drawer...slightly embarrassing but here it is!
It didn't take long to look like this...
I have come to a few conclusions after this exercise...

I have come to a few conclusions after this exercise...
- I have alarmingly few pairs of socks
- of these socks, 3 pairs are strictly seasonal (halloween/easter/christmas)
- a tidy sock drawer makes me smile
- and I am SO thankful to have found a kindred spirit in my Auntie Sandra, someone to share these techniques with when others may be shaking their heads!
A round of applause for my Auntie Sandra!
How many of you reassessed your sock drawers after the video?

Is it just me...
or does everybody struggling with folding fitted sheets?!?!? I can't be the only one.
In the past (as in all days previous to this one) my technique in folding fitted sheets was to simply swing them around my arm a few times and then stuff them in the linen closet. This method has served me well for the past few years, until today. I bought two sets of new sheets yesterday, today I washed and dried them and was about to fold/twirl them when I thought "there has to be a better way". So what to do but head to YouTube and look up "How to Fold a Fitted Sheet". You'd be surprised how many videos there are! I picked this one...
Thank you Jill Cooper! My sheets have gone from a twirled clumps to neat piles!

Did you see the sunset yesterday....
"And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our fear, our presence automatically liberates others." - Marianne Williamson
