Chickies and Prairie Points

While we wait for a few more bug questions (I'm lookin' at YOU!), I thought I'd share my latest quilting project. I think this one is one of my most favorite, and yes I say that about almost every project!
This baby quilt will be sent to Germany and I like to think its a reflection of the prairies, what with the chickies and prairie points (those are the little triangles).
Baby quilts are possibly one of most fun things to quilt. Not just because of the quilt fabric and how quickly they quilt up, but because of how special baby quilts are. I still have mine from my Nana, it had kittens and balls of yarn on it. Who knows who this new babe will grow up to be, but they will know that someone loves them on the prairies.

If you've got questions...I've got answers!

In house entomologist!
As you may know my lovely roommate/best friend Zoe is studying entomology at university, and since we've moved in together my knowledge of things that creep and crawl has been greatly expanded! I'm always asking her questions about bugs as and she's always telling me interesting facts and quirks. And I thought maybe a few of you would have some questions about bugs that you've been dying (maybe an exaggeration?) to know about. It could be as simple as "do bees actually die after they lose their stinger?' or 'are there ants that eat humans?' or 'what's your favorite bug, Zoe?'
I think we could all stand to learn a little more about bugs...after all for everyone of us there is something like 2 million bugs on the planet.
If you've got a question please ask it in the comment section below and once we get enough of them I will get them answered by Pleasure's of a Prairie Girl's own entomologist! (Now how many blogs can say that!)

Lists..they work

Zoe and I started the past weekend with a list on the white board of things we wanted to get done this weekend.
Some items we'd just been putting off, some were quick and easy and some (guess which one) were just for fun! But here we are on Sunday night and it's all done!!
We figured out bills...we've been putting that off for a while!
We learned K'naan's song "Hurt Me Tomorrow", this was this silly one that we decided to because we were tired of mumbling through the song in the car. And now after practicing a few times, we at least know what he is singing. We're nerds.
We did a HUGE organize/clean of the apartment. Seriously awesome. It took forever but was so worth it.
We sent a thank you card to people we had a big thank you to give.
And we booked tickets to a concert in an effort to step away from evenings of hibernation.
Below the weekend to-do list is a secondary list for my projects alone. It has really motivated me to get my butt in gear and finish things so I can start new ones!
Hopefully by the end of the week I will be halfway done the list!! The T-shirt quilt is over halfway done.
You already saw the jean/flannel quilt. But here are the other completed projects on the list...
The cross-stitched birth announcement made for a fellow blog follower!
And a baby quilt for the newest addition on my Mom's side of the family. I unfortunately forgot to take a picture of it unfolded, but it has the cutest giraffe fabric on it!
Any one else a fan of list making? I have to be honest, I've never had so much success with it as I've had these past few weeks, and I'm loving it!

Finishing up projects

Remember this pile of jean and flannel?
I cut those squares back in June and have been wanting to sew them up into a rag quilt all summer. It finally happened this week. Annie Rose came over and was my quilting assistant, and we got it done in record time!
Thank you Annie Rose for you help and Zoe for being my quilt model! This quilt is destined for some delicious picnic-ing!
This is just one of the projects I've had on my to-do list since the summer, I am determined to finish this list before the end of fall!

All in a walk...

I think one of my favorite things about being together with my family is our enjoyment of going for walks with each other. It seems best for everybody's mental health that we get outside and burn off some steam everyday. These walks are never uneventful!
We start out together...
Then this happens...everytime. They are constantly punching and hitting each other. It's quite frightening because neither of them hold back!

We pause for pictures...
And then continue on until something like this happens...
They circled each other for a few minutes before someone got leaves down her shirt...
And then just when we've all had enough, we find our way home.
Albeit not the fastest way, but definitely the most fun!

The North

Good morning! I just got back from northern Manitoba yesterday morning. It was a great trip, with lots of visiting, beautiful fall trees and yummy food!
This is my friend's 'backyard', amazing!
There was some crafting involved during the visit...
And this sweet face...
As well as, this sweet face!!
And now I'm back in the land of internet, cell phones and traffic lights! Expect to hear from me soon!
